Early Intervention to Preschool Transitions
IEP Meeting Support
The transition between early intervention services and preschool services is often difficult for parents. Your child's care plan switches from a family centric model to an educationally centric model.  Many parents feel as though they have little to no guidance through the process and enter into their first IEP meeting without fully understanding their child's educational rights. We will review your IFSP, assist you through the entire transition process, and attend your first IEP meeting to ensure your child's educational needs are met.
IEP meetings can be overwhelming and stressful for parents.  We are available to attend your child's IEP meeting with you.  We will make sure that you understand the legal framework that outlines the IEP process, provide input to goals that reflect your child's needs, and ensure you as the parent are afforded meaningful participation in the IEP process.  We will assist in taking notes and addressing areas of concern. The hourly rate for IEP meetings include a records review, meeting preparation and attendance.
Preschool to Kindergarten Transitions
Office of Civil Rights Filings
The transition from preschool to kindergarten is a period that is full of uncertainty for many parents. We can help you understand the various settings and programs offered by your district.  We want to advocate for an environment that provides your child a meaningful education.  This could include a number of academic, therapeutic, cognitive, social, and emotial supports.  We will review your existing IEP, provide guidance through the transition process, and attend your transition IEP meeting to ensure your child's educational needs are met.
Sometimes you may feel that a school or district is denying your child's right to a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE).  If pursuing the local grievance process has not resulted in any changes, you have the option to initiate a grievance process with the U.S. Department of Education's law enforcement agency, the Office of Civil Rights (OCR).  OCR accepts complaints on behalf of one student or an entire class of students.  We will review your case to ensure it meets the filing requirements before writing and submitting the complaint to OCR.
New District Transfers
Due Process Pro Se Mentoring
There are a lot of moving parts when you come into a new district with an existing IEP.  You have to navigate new laws, policies, and new status quos of what has always been done.  We will help you ensure the IEP in place when your child transfers into their new district is honored in accordance with IDEA.  We will help you understand the new district's policies, the state laws, and how both may impact the existing IEP to ensure your child's educational rights are protected during the transition process. We will also attend two transitional IEP meetings.
Under federal law, you have the right to file a due process petition when you feel a school district has violated IDEA.  You also have the right to represent yourself as a pro se litigant.  School district attorneys work hard to prevent your case from ever making it to trial.  We will explain the pro se process to you, help you understand your rights, and assist you throughout your due process case.  We will also advise you if we believe your case should be transferred to an attorney.  You can also start due process pro se and hire an attorney at a later time.
Bucket of Hours
Other Support
As special needs parents, we understand that sometimes the help needed does not fit in a well defined box.  If you need help in multiple ways or in various environments, we offer a bucket of hours at a discounted percentage from our regular hourly rate.  These hours can be used for a variety of things from special education, to help with camp or extracurricular activity accommodations, or some other advocacy need that may not be listed on this page.  All bucket of hour packages must be used within three months of purchase.
We are available to lead lobbying efforts at all levels of government, organize position papers for an official group statement, assist in finding accommodations for community programs, and advise local businesses on developing more inclusive opportunities and events.  We can support requests locally and leverage technology to assist nationally.  If you have a need and aren't sure we can help, please reach out and contact us.  We are a company dedicated to advocating for disability rights.  That is our passion.
